Hello I have an engine code in my 525i wagon. It says "Camshaft position actuator a bank 1 timing over-advance. Can anyone let me know what this means. Thanks, John

Hello, Your vehicle has variable camshaft control it is able to advance or retart the camshaft by the use of oil pressure thu an electric solenoid. It is monitored by a camshaft position sensor. What the code means is that the computer is commanding a retarted or less advanced position, but the cam sensor is reporting a different position that is advanced. This can be caused by a bad solenoid a stuck actuator or dirt in the system.
