Question

I I have a 1955 ford with a fordomatic transmission . Before replacing the intake gaskets it shifted smooth . Now it shifts hard from 1st to 2nd but won't shift into 3rd. When replacing the gaskets , I un-bolted the carburator linkage assembly from the intake . When connecting the linkage assembly back I notice the linkage arm going to the transmission was off . I installed it back on the linkage assembly but now it doesn't shift right . Does this linkage arm control the shifting ?
