I have a 1999 Yamaha Waverunner 1200 which is cavitating. My husband is saying the impeller rings need replaced. From what I''ve read and learned I am guessing we need to replace the impeller housing. Does this sound like the most likely repair? Does this take any special tools?

That is correct there are no wear rings in that unit . It is not that hard to replace if it needs to be done. It is best to disassemble and inspect both the impeller and the housing for damage and wear and then replace as necessary. You will need an impeller tool to remove the impeller from the shaft if necessary.
