Answer

Hi XXXXXXXXX;

There really isnt a self cleaning disposal.

What there is are methods to clean them. Just quarter a lemon or orange and put it in the disposal with no water. Let it grind for a bit then add water as usual.

To scrub the unit toss a tray of regular household sized ice cubes in there. Cover the hole with the drain plug or a soft plastic bowl (tupperware style). Fire it up and its super scrub time.

I have heard of a self cleaning disposal. It uses a spray ring located below the splash guard, and is connected to the cold water line.
When the disposal is turned on, a timer turns water on which flows through the disposal, forcing the food debris in a counter clockwise direction to the blade. When you turn the disposal off, water continues to flow through the spray ring for 15 seconds, thoroughly flushing out any remaining debris from the disposal.

I am interested in who manufactures these, and where I can buy one.

Answer

all garbage disposer now days are self cleaning you should never run your garbage disposal without running water..in reality the run water after feature is just another thing to break or go wrong and spring a leak.
