Info Request

Hi XXXXXXXXXX,
How long has your cat been ill?
Would you happen to have the results of any of these laboratory tests...as this would help me to answer your question.

Actually it's my cousin's cat...she took the cat in to the vet I believe the day before yesterday...brought her home where she lost control of her bladder so she took her to ER today.

Accepted Answer

Without seeing results of the lab tests, my answer will be less definitive. However, the weight loss, dehydration, loss of bladder control, and anemia in a cat of this age are very consistent with chronic renal failure or cancer. If I could see the results of the tests, I would be able to tell you if renal failure was present for sure...but, cancer is going to need to be diagnosed by looking for it with X-rays/ultrasound/MRI.

If the doctor at the ER suspects this, then they would stabilize your cousin's cat tonight and then refer to a full service hospital in the morning for further diagnostics to determine the cause of this problem.

I hope that this information helps you, and that your cat feels better soon. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
