Answer

Golf ball type eggs are often turtle eggs. You can see some turtle eggs here
http://www.samcampbell.com/SSA61.jpg
You can see one that was opened here
http://www.northrup.org/Photos/turtle/low/turtle-eggs%20(1).jpg
It is possible that the egg is one that was opened up early by a predator and the reason there is a red material in it is that the egg was taken from a nest, opened and the contents eaten.
Hope this helps you!

Reply to NancyH's Post: the eggs weren't small like a golf ball, they had the little divits like a golf ball. the eggs were more the size of a duck egg - but I don't think that it was a duck; although, ducks ARE in the immediate area

That makes a difference!
What color was the shell?
What state do you live in (different critters and birds nest in different states)

Answer

It is possible due to your location that this is a reptile egg such as an alligator.
Reptile eggs such as turtles or snakes or alligators are usually leathery or pliable feeling rather than brittle like bird eggs are.
Being from the northeast I think of chicken eggs as brown but I know other parts of the country white eggs are normal.
Here is a pine snake with eggs

and here are some alligator eggs

here are some iguana eggs

as many are free roaming and breeding in Florida now that is a possibility.

Answer

Sure that might help :)

On your question page, there is a tool bar above the reply box at the bottom of the page. If the tool bar is not showing, click "show tool bar". Once you have the tool bar showing, here are the instructions for posting your files:

For graphics, click the tree icon and then browse to choose a GIF, PNG, or JPG. Upload and then insert it.

For zip files, PDFs, or spreadsheets, you need to use the link tool. Enter text (like "download this") in the reply box and then double-click to highlight it. The link is the tool to the left of the tree. In the upper right corner is a browse dialog box, which you can use to locate your file. Select it and then insert the link. Use the Preview button if you want to test the link and see if it works correctly.

File size is limited to 1 MB.

Darn it I still see nothing but a blank square for both of them.
If they are over 1 meg in size the site won't accept them.

I know that it's been a while but I couldn't remember how to log on to this. I took more pictures of the "egg". I found out that it was some type of mushroom. I still would like to pay you for your time with this. Thanks, XXXXXX. XXXX tell me what I need to do to ensure that you get paid.
