Question

Have a goodyear performance touring tire on a 2005 mazda 6. I have a flat and am having problems removing it. After jacking up the car and taking the lugnuts off there is something below the center cap of the rim (mazda symbol) that is confusing me. is there a tool i am suppose to have to remove that in order to put my spare tire on? it looks as though it is attached to the factory rim but i canttell for sure. what do i do from here?

Answer

Hello and thank you for choosing Just Answer.

You should not need to remove anything once you have taken the lug nuts off. The Mazda symbol can be removed by s thin flat head screw driver or a knife. There should be a big axle nut under the cap, but you should not need to remove it.

The Mazda symbol in the middle just pops right out.

Trying to pull the tire i am simply shaking the car. Is it just a simple matter of it being stuck and just keep trying to pry the tire off?
Should I pry the factory rim off or should the entire tire come off not that i have removed the lugnuts?

Accepted Answer

You need to take off all the lug nuts, and then the whole rim should come off. You may want to tap it with your hand around the edges and it should just come off. The whole rim comes off you will not be able to get the tire off by itself.

had another look and another try and it looks as though the brake disc and rim are one and the same.
Its a factory rim that extends the width of the tire. what am i not seeing or doing here?

Does it look like the axle nut is also holding the rim?

It looks as though the axle nut is apart of the rim. I do not see where I would be able to either twist off or use a leverage system to be able to pry off.

Answer

You may need to take off the axle nut as well. Take off the axle nut, there is nothing that you can potentially damage by just taking off that additional nut. Other than that the rim has to come off.

Suggestion on tools. I used the jack lever as a crowbar more or less and it simply bent the lever(at the point where you would normally use to separate the rim or hubcap from the tire). thanks

Answer

You can go to Autozone and rent a BrakeBar and Axle nut socket. You the bar is very big and you should not have a problem getting it off.
