Accepted Answer

Vermont has no specific law on prenuptial agreements, thus, prenuptial agreements are considered a contract. The only way you can challenge the agreement is if it was unconscionable or if you were coerced into signing it or did not have the opportunity to review the agreement and/or consult with an attorney or if it was procured by fraud. You could also consider a challenge to the agreement based upon inadequate or no consideration. Every contract requires consideration, if you did not receive any consideration for signing the contract, it could be held invalid. You must speak to an attorney and bring them the agreement to review. If you cannot afford an attorney, call both the legal aid and/or the state bar association and they can provide you with an attorney at a reduced rate or free of charge.
