Depending upon the reason why you collect social security payments you can collect both. If you are collecting social security benefits for a reason other than your own disability, you should be able to collect the unemployment benefits for losing your job. You may be asked by the Unemployment Office about those benefits and they may initially even deny you or try to reduce your payments, but you can then appeal the decision. If you need to appeal, you should have an attorney represent you on appeal. Do not hide the fact you are getting the social security payments because you could be charged with fraud and be liable to pay back twice the amount you collected or more.
