Question

I hurt my back and I don''t know how I did it, but when I lay down or get up from the couch, my back is very stiff like I can''t straighten up, but I eventually get going. Is a that normal with back pain?

Info Request

Do you have any pain going down the legs at all?

Is it sore when you press the muscles in the back?

Any other problems, such as numbness or weakness in the legs, or trouble using the bathroom (voiding normally)?

I do not have numbness or weak legs, or using the bathroom. All the pain is on the lower back.

Accepted Answer

If that is your only symptoms, then it is very likely you have a musculoskeletal strain of the back.

The soreness is often quite intense for a few days to a week, after which it will improve. Generally you should continue with your normal activities, but avoid anything strenuous that could re-strain your back.

Whatever you can do to make yourself comfortable is advised, as well as Advil for pain relief.

If the pain has not improved over the first two weeks, then you should go see your doctor for further evaluation.
