Question

I have a 1999 Suburban. I am unable to start my vehichle. It is getting spark but no fuel. This happened a month ago and I took it to my mechanic thinking I had a bad fuel pump. He checked everything out and figured out that the automatic fuel shut-off just needed to be re-set. I''d like to know how to reset it myself so that I don''t have to tow my vehichle back to the shop. Can you tell me how?

Your vehicle does not use a fuel pump cut off switch. The cut off switch is something mainly used by ford. Your fuel pump is controlled by a fuel pump relay and the engine control module. Here is a wirirg schematic of the exact system in your vehicle. There are no parameters for a fuel pump cut off switch. This makes me wonder what your mechanic actually did to get this vehicle running. I would advise you to do the following. The first thing I would do is remove the fuel filler cap and listen with your ear close to the filler as an assistant turns the key from off to on. You should hear a slight buzz for a couple seconds, if not you need to verify if there is voltage at the gray wire at the fuel tank connector. If there is a buzz, you will need a fuel pressure tester to verify actual fuel system pressure. Feel free to contact me with any questions, findings, or problems! Here is the schematic of the wiring! Good luck!
