My ex-wife died intestate in 12/07. Our son then died intestate in 3/08. He has a half brother by another father. I am my son''s only heir. Am I entitled to my deceased sons share of his mother''s estate?

According to the California intestate succession laws [see here for summary of law] actual state here.

You would inherit your son's estate as you are the sole heir and this would include your son's portion which he inherited from his mother as an heir to her estate.

When the mother died both your son and stepson would inherit (along with any surviving spouse). Your son's inheritance from his mother does not go away once he dies as it becomes part of his estate which then transfers over to his heir, which in this case would be you.

So based on the information you have provided here, you would inherit your son's estate which includes his inheritance from mom's estate.
