Question

2001 Silverado 4X4, 5.3L. The red brake light and the yellow ABS light remain on. Problem seems to be intermittent. The lights are not always on. Does not seem to be any change in stopping or pedal. Where do I start as far as diagnosing the problem??
Thank you.

The very first thing to check is to see if there are any brake related trouble codes stored within the vehicle. The problem with this is that you will need a scan tool like the pros use. Simple OBD2 code readers do not have the software to get into the brake system like needed. Even if the lights are not on. this problem has set a code and it will be stored in the system. There are many places a problem like this can lie, but being that it is putting both the red brake light on and also the abs light, it makes me feel like this may be a problem with the actual abs control valve, or possibly the electronic brake control module. We really need the trouble code though before we can go on. If you have access to one of these scan tools, let me know and we can go on. Feel free to contact me with any quesitons, or problems! Good luck!
