The ignition switch is responsible for carrying the current to a "hot in Run" source, connecting 15-18 amps through the ignition switch is not recommended at all, it is not designed to carry this much current,
A better option would be to run your load off of a Relay that is turned on by the ignition switch.
To do this, you can buy a universal relay and connector, connect a B+ to terminal 30 of the relay, connect load to 87 of the relay, connect term 85 to a ground and connect term 86 to an ignition source. This would only add an additional 150-200ma to the ignition switch.
