Question

Our cat, Gracie, is dying. She is 10 years old. She was the runt of the litter and has always had health problems. She stopped being able to hold down food 3 days ago and is looking for a place to die. We want to put her down ourselves. She has rarely seen the vet. She is violently allergic to immunizations and we paid to have a doctor come to us when she was sick. We want her to go with us at home where she is comfortable. We do not have the funds to call our vet doctor to our home. My husband is retired and I am disabled. Is there anything we can give her to help her finally go to sleep and die? I have some .05 mg Klonazepam that I use as I need it for my disability. Is this something we could use? We love her so dearly and want her to be out of her pain.

Our cat, Gracie, is very ill and is looking for somewhere to die. I so not have the money to take her to a vet to put her down. Is there anything we can try at home?

Answer

Hi Nancy,

I am sorry your kitty is so ill. There is absolutely nothing that you can give her at home that will humanely euthanize her, so please DO NOT administer anything. The drugs you have available for your own use are not going to ensure a smooth or quick death for your kitty, and she deserves to go peacefully and with dignity. Various human drugs will cause symptoms that range from seizures to kidney or liver failure, and these are not pleasant or quick ways to die.

If you want a humane euthanasia, you will have to call a vet and either take her in or see if someone will come to you. You can contact your local humane society or SPCA and inquire about low cost services that they may provide. I urge you to contact a vet, it is sure to be very uncomfortable for your kitty if she lingers and suffers until she dies of natural causes at home. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. If this has been helpful, please hit the green accept button. I am very sorry about your kitty.
