Info Request

Hi there,

How old is your cat?

Is the blood bright red?

How much?

Is the stool normal, loose or hard?

Indoor kitty?

Thanks,

Terri

Weasel is an indoor cat, he is about 10 months old. I got him two months ago from the SPCA, I don't know what you would call normal stool, because his from the very beginning has been somewhat loose. The blood seems to be dark red and I would say there was about a good half dollar size amount in the stool.

Dear friend,

I am sorry your new baby is not feeling wel.

Blood in the stool of a kitty that young is usually caused by a parasite.Since Weasel was in the humane society he may have worms or protozoans:

coccidia http://www.marvistavet.com/html/coccidia.html

Giardia http://marvistavet.com/html/giardia.html

Of course swallowing a sharp non food item like an earing post could also cause this symptom.

To cure diarrhea add one tablespoon of infant rice cereal to your babys food every day.

Take a stool sample to your vet for evaluation.

May God bless you for adopting a shelter kitty.

Sincerest best wishes,

Terri

Would you recommend a special diet for him, or a different type of food, right now I feed him Purinia indoor formula, I feed him about one cup of food in the morning and at night. Thanks.

Answer

Hi there,

Yes, I would suggest you add some canned food for your boy with a tablespoon of infant rice cereal to firm up the stool.

Cats are meat eaters and they do not get adequate nutrition from dry food alone

Best of luck with your sweet new boy,

Terri
