Hello, herpes of the mouth known as 'cold sore' is transmitted from one person to another by skin to skin contact like kissing. Yes, it is possible for the virus(HSV 1) to be transmitted through a cigarette or other intermediate objects like drinking glass, face cloth, eating utensil etc. The lesion appears after 1 or 2days of contact and heals usually by 8 to 12 days.

For treatment, you can take zovirax cream and pill or valtrex. you can also use ice packsto numb the area to reduce pain sensation and also lower the temperature and thereby inhibit the virus. Use cold tea bags which contain tannic acid and which inhibits the virus.

You can consult a dermatologist to check out the lesions.

I don't know if my friend has herpes (I haven't' seen her in about 10 years. It's not something I want to ask.
The bumps are really tiny. I have about 5 of them now.

I travel every week. I was thinking of going to one of those urgent care places-where you do not have to have an appointment. Will a regular doctor do a test? I want to find out.
   Thank you for your time.
Tammy
