Question

I was told by my best friend today that a store owner in Penn Station where I work in New York was slendering me today by telling her that I was fired from my job and she should pick the people she hang out with. She came her store as customer and she knew we knew each other but she did not know that she was by best friend. And she told her that she should mine her business if you don''t know the facts about her and stop telling people anout her when you don''t know. Stop slendering her name. Do I have a case with this store ower

Accepted Answer

Slander or defamation require that the statement be untrue. The next requirement is that the person who was slandered or defamed must prove they suffered some type of economic loss. If you haven't suffered any economic loss because of the store owner's comments then you have no case for slander or defamation.

Answer

If she is telling the truth, the truth is a defense to any accusations of defamation or slander. Sorry that I couldn't give you a better answer.
