Question

I just purchaced a 1999 S-70 GLT and went through a complete detail on the car. I washed the car and cleaned the engne. I now have the check engine light on and it seems that the car has a miss. The ETS light has now come on. At an idle the engine has a slight miss, but when you drive the car and put the engine under load you can feel the miss. I think that a sesor has gotten wet and water is causing the problem. I''m uncertain about this because it has been 3 days now. Have I shorted out a sensor or should I look elsewhere? I have disconnected and dried out the sensors I could see. I''m thinking I may have shorted out the TPS because of the ETS light comming on. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? By the way the engine looks very clean and the rest of the car looks show room condition. I know now that I should have not cleaned the engine. I''m also thinking that I may have a wet sensor still and I would like your suggestion on what on may be wet. I ran eng to temp at idle and letset

Answer

i would check the spark plugs and coils. you can figure out which one is missing by unplugging each injector. if the engine runs worse(adding a misfire) it is not that one. keep unplugging them until the engine doesnt change (only 1 misfire). then look at the coil and spark plug and see if there is anything obvious. then you can move the coil to another hole and spark plug to a different one, then check which has the misfire and can figure out which one it is...the plug or coil. for the ets light, i would take to dealership because there is a recall pertaining to the throttle and could possibly fall into that category according to what they find. i know this may be hard to follow, i am not the best at explaining but usually this is where the misfire comes from when an engine gets washed. let me know if i can be of more help!
