Question

I just installed a new Carter in tank fuel pump in my 1990, 740 Volvo, non-turbo. I hear the pump run for a second or two when I first turn on the ignition. The car sputters for a second when I try and start it. If I turn off the ignition and try again it will sputter again but no matter how long I crank it won''t start.

I disconnected the fuel line at the rail and when I first turn on the ignition I get a short spurt of fuel, presumably while the pump runs

The original problem was that it acted as though it was running out of fuel and stall every so often on the highway. As soon as I would pull over it would restart and run fine.

It has a pulsator which I reinstalled with the new pump. Can it be installed backwards?

Any other ideas?
