Hello,

My name is XXXXXXX XXX I have an answer to your question although it is subject to some variables. There is a small demand for these motors by vintage collectors but in order for the motor to have any significant value it must either be 100% original and in at least good condition or completely restored to new or better condition. The smaller motors (5-25hp) seem to be the most collectible as they are easily displayed indoors and take up little room. I have seen pristine 1950's motors go for $1000 where as ordinary or less then good condition motors are hard to give away. If yours is a good example, you should be able to find an interested collector that would be willing to buy it. You might even consider contacting some museums to see if they might be interested in it. But keep in mind that these vintage motors and the people who collect them are a small niche and it could take some time and a bit of leg work to to sell it for a good price. If the motor has any sentimental value you could also purchase a display stand for it and keep it as a conversation piece.

I hope this helps answer your question. If you feel it is too vague I understand but if it is useful to you then you can click the accept button. We are here to help you as best we can and feel free to reply back if you need any additional information.

Best Regards,

Michael

How would I find out what year it is? Thanks for your answer otherwise.

Hello there again,

If the motor still has it's original model/serial number plate (usually rivited to the bracket that mounts the motor to the boat) you can use the letters in the model number to determine the year. What you do is write out the word "INTRODUCES" which has 10 letters in it..then write the numbers 0-10 below it i.e. I = 0, N = 1, T = 2, etc. The two letters in the model number that you're looking for will be in sequence and will be letters from the the word introduces. Example, the model number EN25L would be a 81 (1981) model year because E=8 and N=1. This code only works on Jonson/Evinrude outboards.

If the model/serial number plate is missing then you might have to contact a few Johnson/Evinrude dealers and see if they can Identify the year by its markings and color scheme.

Good luck, I hope my answer helps..

Reply to Michael's Post: I know exactly what you are talking about however the only markings on the plate are Evinrude Motors and then serial numbers 7514-15652. Do you suggest I just talk to a Evinrude dealer?
