First you will have to find out if the name is in use. You can do this by internet searches, searching the name on the US Patent and Trademark Office website to see if it's been registered or applied for, or by contracting with a special search company who also check through telephone listings, company names, and has further resources available than you or I might have.
It can take up to 18 months, sometimes longer and the cost will run you (online) $325 or (by mail) $375. You can find out everything you need to know at the following links
