I just received a notice of default and right to cure from Citifinancial for past due amounts on my account with a threat to be taken to General Sessions Court if I don''t respond w/i 5 days. I am working with a debt settlement company who is not ready to offer a settlement - so I am caught in the middle. Just wondering how best to protect myself until a settlement is offered and accepted. Thank you.

I have listened to the legal advice of the debt settlement co. to ignore any contact in this interim period. all other creditors have not taken this extreme action (only 3 months past due when I've already paid thousands over the course of 3 years).

Have the debt settlement company write a letter to citifinancial explaining at what point an offer will be extended. My experience with Citif is that if they dont have to go to court and can reasonably expect a settlement of some sort in the short term they will accomodate you.
