Question

I received an on line odaination and from Universal ministries. I plan on preforming weddings in New Jersey. I''ve done some research and I do not see any law that prohibits me form doing so. Could I have missed anything or are you aware of any law I may have over looked?

Hi Kevin,

Here's what the law states. I'd recommend calling a county clerk and ask if they accept ordination through Universal ministries. (This is what I did.) Then when you sign the license, be sure to sign it Rev. XXXXX XXXXXX.

You need to have a justice of the peace or a religious clergyman sign the document. On your wedding day, you'll give your chaplain your marriage license, then after the ceremony, he'll sign it and send it to the proper government agency for validation.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
