Optional Information

Optional Information:
1996 seville STS 4.6L

Already Tried:
I've pulled my diagnostic codes, because my traction control light stays on and I have a chatter in my dash. I got two current codes. One was AC1312 that corresponds to my AC and might be what's causing the chatter. The second current code was TC0063 which is traction control related. I just need to know what the codes are indicating. Thanks...

Answer

XXXXX,

CODE TC0063 IS BRAKE PRESSURE MODULATOR VALVE, BPMV, power supply malfunction. Check your right hand maxi fuse block, fifty amp maxi fuse, this powers up the "Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module", EBTCM, the ebtcm and bpmv, are connected together on the frame under the air box. If the maxi fuse is good and the EBTCM is getting power their is a relay inside it which powers up the valves inside the BPMV . Code sixty three sets with an open in the valve power circuit , a faulty valve relay or if the bpmv becomes damaged. If the maxi fuse checks out good I could give you the diagnostic chart but use of a breakout box is required, you may want to defer to the dealer. These two units are non serviceable. They had a lot of trouble with the EBTCM in this year of car. Remember as long as your dash light is on , you do not have low gear when you take off, the computer defaults , to second gear as long as the light is on.

CODE AC1312 AC HIGH SIDE TEMP CIRCUIT OPEN Most likely a bad or obstructed temp sensor. It is located on center of firewall on AC high side line. Check connector for corrosion. Check wires for breaks.

Reply to LSx Tech Shawn's Post: Where is the maxi fuse box that houses the 50amp fuse?

Answer

Right side of the engine compartment on fenderwell. You're looking for MAXI(Large)fuse #5. Should be 50amp.

Sorry, should have told you that.

No problem. I thought that's where it was. So, would it be safe to say that it's either the BPMV/EBTCM modules if the fuse is good?

I would say that if there is power th the EBTCM and the fuse is good that it is highly likely one of the two are bad. At the price for the two you may want Cadillac to check which is the problem. Chance the relay in the EBTCM is bad.

Okay, I hope it's just a fuse because I know those mudules are pricey. I'll check the fuse tomorrow and take it to the dealer if it's good. One last thing, my AC is running fine and you stated the code earlier.

What does high side temp circut regulate and does it hurt the unit even though it seems to be working fine?

Answer

Here is the description of code 63 and the diagnostic charts if you want to check for power.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM & TRACTION CONTROL -1995 Cadil Page 1 of 1

DTC 63 - BPM VALVE POWER SUPPLY FAULT

Valve relay provides power to ABS and TCS valve solenoids in the BPM
valve. Valve relay is located in the EBTCM, and is activated
whenever ignition is on and no faults are present. Power is provided
to the valves through the relay from circuit No. 1042 connected to
terminal No. 3 of the EBTCM. Valve relay remains engaged until
ignition is turned off or a failure is detected.

DTC 63 can set with an open in the valve power circuit, faulty valve
relay, or damaged BPM valve.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.

1.Checks for proper voltage to valve.
2.Checks for open in one or more of the individual valve power
leads or the main lead to all the valves within the BPM.

I noticed that's for a 95 Is it the same for my 96? If so, thanks for the help. dv..

Answer

If the AC is functioning properly I'd say it will be fine. I would still check the connector and wires to make sure there isn't a bad connection or bad wire.

Accepted Answer

Double checked. (6 looks to be the same charts.
