Hi,

Possible other causes include short/open in wiring, faulty ECM, no or low voltage from fuel injection relay, or high resistance in EGR sv valve.

You will need to follow the flow chart below in order to diagnose problem:

The flow diagram is not helpful. I have escentially proved the vacuum by pass valve is working properly with similar test. also the correct functioning of the egr diaphram from cold to hot operation proves that it is being controlled by the car computer. The wireing diagram was not helpful. Did you miss the part about the engine running great ? I took the egr vlave out and ran a wire and carb cleaner in both exaust and intake ports to clean out carbon. Cleaned up EGR ports, use air and vacuum to check out. I have not replaced the gasket to the egr valve . could a very small leak there cause the problem?

Answer

Hi,

An intermittent problem, such as loose/poor connection can be enough to set code but not enough to affect performance. This is reason i sent you the flowchart, in case you needed to check all connections and verify proper voltage.

You didnt mention that you failed to replace the EGR gasket. That is an important piece of information in helping diagnose a vehicle without seeing it. A leak at the gasket can be enough to set the code. Always replace gaskets when they are removed, you can never be sure of its overall integrity, including minute tears or compression from previous installation.

Yes, an intermitten can be tough to prove. This is my car, its been well tanken care of and clean, but I will check for loose connections. I have been in the suzuki forums, the Geo is a suzuki, and tried the suggestions that seems practical. I guess the gasket is worth a try.
BTY why should the "MAP" sensor cost better than $200. I have checked it out by sucking a vacuum on it and watching the control voltage change, so it seems ok.

Answer

Hi,

Let me know what you find.

Dont have an answer as to why the MAP sensor on that vehicle is so high. I looked around and cant find one for less than $220.
