Hello and welcome to just answer

Unfortunatley you can not deduct the 12,000 you gave as a gift to your mom from your income. This is a gift and you will not have to pay gift taxes on the amount gifted. You will need to file form 709 and send it in with your tax retrun. The 709 is to show the IRS how much of your gift if any is taxable. In your case the $12000 is not subject to gift tax.
