Greetings.

Are you taking any medications or supplements?

Do you have any history of bug bite?

Do you have known allergies?

Any past significant medical / surgical history?

I have family history of heart disease and stroke. I am being treated for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I am allergic to penicillin.

Accepted Answer

Greetings.

This does not seems to be related to your hypertension and high cholesterol. It seems to be allergic reaction. A bug bite is the another possibility.

Since you must be using these medications since long, the allergy phenomenon with this is not very common. But a possibility of drug allergy has to kept as the medications are the commonest cause of the allergies. It has been seen that medicines taken for long time, suddenly starts the allergy. So you can try benadryl, which may relieve your symptoms. If the symptoms are severe and you have some respiratory / breathing problems, you should contemplate seeking help at ER, who may consider giving you steroid shot.

With your features it seems to be allergy, but a small possibility can be a bug bite. But treatment is same. Benadryl in mild symptoms and steroid shot in severe symptoms.

Please feel free for your follow up questions.
