Question

I went to an attorney as I needed a legal document done. When I called for appt the receptionist told me the first 15 minutes was free. No other fee was discussed. When I went to the attoney and talked with him about the document He told me the conference was gratis He kept saying that his information was gratis but if I spoke with another attorney in the office there would be a fee. The whole time I spoke with this man I though it was a free conference. Now he is sending a bill

Answer

Hello and thanks so much for choosing this forum to pose your important legal question. I will do my best to give you some honest and accurate guidance.  I would take the following steps in order:

  1.  Send a letter certified mail--return receipt requested explaining your side of the matter.  Keep a copy for your records.  Allow him 15 days to provide you with written confirmation that you do not owe any balance to the firm.
  2. If you do not receive satisfaction, the State Bar of Florida has a special mechanism set up to handle fee disputes.  Here is the information.

If we can be of any further assistance please free to use our service again. Best wishes for a successful outcome.
