Hi There!
First thing to do is check all your connections under the step, make sure you have good voltage to the step. IT is common for steps to accumulate debris rocks dirt etc.. in the guides underneath. You can get some silicone spray and spray them out really good, it may take most of the bottle but this should get you going. IF you notice any white grease on the guides, this is bad, it collects stuff instead of lubricating. IF there is white grease you can buy a bottle of brake clean to remove it, then use the silicone spray.
