If I send an e-mail which contains copies of e-mails from an aol or yahoo account to an aol e-mail than forward it from there, would anyone be able to tell where it originated?    Can one go to AOL to find out how often their account has been accessed, from where and when? Is there a way to find one's cell phone or e-mail?

OS: Windows XP; Browser: IE

Hello. You actually have three questions here, so let me answer each one at a time.

1. When you forward an email, normally all the header information goes along with it, and that can be used to identify the source. But all you need to do is edit out the header info before you send the forwarded mail, and then the recipient would only know who the last email was from.

2. There is no auditing of AOL account access available to you as a user. AOL may have such information (at least when the account was accessed) but you would probably need to justify to them why they should provide it, and I suspect they won't make it easy.

3. It is probably not easy to find a cell phone number or email, but certainly it is possible to find either. There are services on the internet that, for a price, will find almost anything, including unlisted phone numbers. It just depends how much the information is worth to you.

2. They will be able to tell you when your account was accessed, and perhaps the IP address that accessed. But, that IP would be issued by an ISP, so you would then have to go to that ISP to find out who it was issued to, and they are not likely to provide it. However, if this is a legal issue, a court order can work wonders!
