Question

My car seems like it is burning alot of gas. I have a 1995 325i. I changed both fuel sending units and charcoal canister. The spark plugs were change also. Every time I go up a small hill or a round about the gas needle drops. I was wondering if the cluster is the problem or is something else wrong. How much mile per gallon am I supposed to get?

Good evening-i will try to be as helpful as i can-just to be sure when you are saying that the gas needle drops, you are talking about the fuel level gauge, not the mpg gauge right?-secondly, how many miles per gallon are you getting currently? How many miles are on the vehicle? If your oxygen sensors are "swinging"slowly, not responding to the actual oxygen content in the exhaust gas correctly, they can instruct the engine to run richer. When was the last time the vehicle had the spark plugs replaced? This can also lead to higher mpg .If the car has over 60Kmiles it is time for new spark plugs. At 100k miles the o2 sensors should be replaced-hope this helps- please fell free to reply to this answer-

Reply to bmwforeman's Post: Hello, Thank you for your response. The gas needle is moving not the mpg. I'm not sure of the miles per gallon. If I put $30 I may get 185 miles out of it. I changed the spark plugs about 2 years ago. I also replaced the O2 sensor about 7 months ago, when I changed the sensor the check engine light went off. Was I supposed to use a scantool and clear the code in computer? My car currently has 138000 miles.

so the needle actually moves going up hill?I would think if this was the case it is probalbly alevel sensor issue.Does it return to normal once the vehicle levels out?-I dont know about gas prices where you are- but $30 is less tha n10 gallons, so to get 185miles fromt hat is 19 mpg?Which sounds ok depending on your driving habits.I would have to think that you have a fuel level sensor issue insidet he fuel tank
