Answer

Hello and welcome.

There are many things that can cause the things you describe. A flashing check engine light is very important. This indicates a problem with the running of the car that can cause possible catalytic converter damage. A flashing light is more critical than a steady light for that reason. You would need to get the computer scanned for codes as soon as possible. Replacing a catalytic converter is quite expensive.
