Good evening- i will try to be as helpful as possible.These mirrors can be difficult to diagnose.They are controlled on what bmw calls a lin bus.THere are four components involved in moving the mirrors.There is the general module,both outside mirrors, and the switch.I have seen one mirror go bad,both mirrors go bad,and general modules go bad,all causing the same concern of mirrors not moving correctly.The most likely cause(without looking at vehicle) is the mirrors.There are ways to diagnose this,but the easiest is to swap mirrors from another vehicle or new ones and see if that fixes the problem.My suggestion would be to either bring the vehicle to the dealership or another shop that specializes in bmws.Hope this helps-and remember you can always reply after accepting this answer-
