Question

Hello. I have a 1999 300i BMW. I was just out running errands and the car performed perfectly as usual. When I attempted to start the car to drive it from the driveway into the garage (thank goodness I was home) the car would not start. The electrical systems come up (horn works, fan works). The engine turns over, it just does not kick in. After the third or fourth attempt to start, the engine sounds like no gas is getting into the engine. The fuel gauge reads 3/4 full, which I believe as I filled it up two days ago.

So. . .my questions are, any idea what is wrong? And, is there something I might be able to do to get the car running again or will a mechanic need to look at it?

Already Tried:
I removed the air-filter to see if that was plugged. Same result. I also examined the exaust to see if that was plugged. Same result. I checked the oil level, it is on the low side, but there is oil on the dip stick. Odd, there appears to be a bit or rust on the dip stick.

Hello. I will try to help you with this problem. I think it is possible that the vehicle has become flooded out. This happens sometimes between moving the vehicle a short distance and then say moving it into the garage. What I would like you to try to do is the clear flood mode. Press the gas pedal all the way to the floor. This signals the DME to cut the fuel to the injectors. Then crank the vehicle until it seems like it catches or does fire up for you. When it catches let it run for a bit to clear out the engine of excessive fuel. It could be other things but it is better to start with the basics and things you can do yourself. Let me know how it works out and I will try to help you further.Thank you.

Wow. My car is now in the garage. The engine is now back to its normal growl. THANK YOU!!! What do you think caused this? Should I take it in and have someone scope it for further problems? Strange.
