Question

My 35 lb Vizla pup (7 months) ate half my baseball cap last night. There was a hard plastic core of the bill that she chewed up and swallowed. Her behaviour was normal all day and almost 24 hours from when she ate the hat, she started to vomit. Her first two vomits contained a lot of food and chunks of the plastic (a lot). The last two vomits were purely of bile. She has vomitted 4 times in an hour. Should I wait this out and see if she gets better overnnight or should I take her to an emergency clinic?

Hi XXXXXXXXX,

Given that it is known that she ingested a foreign object and one that contained plastic, I would have her seen by your vet. I am worried abot an intestinal obstruction and or peritonitis. You can read about these conditions below.

The plastic could be sharp and puncture the gastrointestinal tract causing peritonitis.

If an obstruction is present, the longer the obstruction is left untreated the more damage that is done. So I have to suggest a visit earlier rather than later. I hope this information is helpful to you.
