Question

After fastening the tank to the bowl of the toilet,is there a reason why it leaks between the tank and the bowl? I have already installed new seals at the bottom of the flush and the assembly holding the flapper hole. Also a new gasket was installed on the bottom of the tank section. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it was the one installed when I bought the house. I only changed the thickness on the gasket on the bottom of the tank over the cover fastening (large oval nut), that fits over the hole on the bowl; generic from Home Depot.

Is it leaking at the large gasket between the tank and bowl? or at the fastening bolts?

It was hard to tell, but since it sort of gushes out when you initiate a flush; I would have to assume that it might be the large gasket, since I tried to tighten the other two bolts pretty secure!

Accepted Answer

My initial guess, without being able to actually see it, is that the large gasket between the tank and bowl may not be the correct one. Is this the one you said you purchased that was generic? If so, you may have to find one that is a closer fit to the original. I'm just curious why that was replaced in the first place...that gasket rarely needs to be changed.

The bolts that hold the tank on the bowl, should have rubber washers and the washers should be sitting on a clean surface; any dirt could cause leaking. The bolts should be relatively tight but do not overtighten because the tank can crack.
