Question

I have a 03 murano in the shop for a new sterring rack and struts, with having only 50,000 miles on it should the rack be gone already, is this a comon problem with the car. There is no history of front end damage I checked before buying. Is $3300.00cnd about right to re/re it?

Hi XXXXXXXXX.

Thank you for asking your question on Just Answer.

Are you loosing you having steering issues or power steering fluid (is it leaking at the rack). From what I have seen there is no rack issues.

There are no fluid leaks. When you go over a speed bump it fells loose and sounds loose on the front. I have told the shop to only replace the struts for now as that was all I thought it was. And of course its just out of worrenty.

When you say sounds loose are you hearing any popping sounds?

Best way I can describe is, if you went over a bump with a couple loose wheel nuts on front. no popping sounds.

Accepted Answer

That sounds like it might be the upper strut mount bearings. There was also a TSB that nissan put out that might also be part of this. Below is that TSB.

Thanks for your help Matt. The car was an exlease so you would think that tsb issue was fixed, but I have the full service history on the car so I'll check my files if it shows no record of this tsb I would think Nissan would stand good for the repair. My brother has a 07 350z with a 6 speed trans thats given him head aches seems no one up here in BC. is trained on that set up yet.

Glad to help. If the issue is related to the TSB then they should be willing to take care of it for you. Tell your brother about this site, there are a lot of techs that are more then willing to help him with his issues.
