Question

I have a 2005 murano w/ 47000 miles. A few days ago the driver''s seat assembly snapped and needs to be replaced. Today I was going down my driveway, I stopped w/ foot on brake. The car made a hurrendous noise, not an acceleration noise, something else, and it lurched forward. I felt the car was out of control, so I turned off the key. I have an appt to fix the seat tomorrow, what do you think the lurching was? I DID NOT have my foot on the acclerator, it was on the brake, and also I have had two differernt cars years ago with faulty accelorator cables rev up the engine, I shifted to neutral both times, but this was not that. Do you know what it was? thanks! Mrs. P

Answer

Your Nissan Murano does not have a throttle cable, it uses computer input to control the throttle based on the throttle pedal position. The engine speed also is increased slightly for air conditioning and electrical loads. You most likely felt an engine speed increase due to an engine load adjustment. The noise was most likely an ABS (anti lock brakes) noise since your foot was on the brake. ABS activates in order to control tire slip or skid and is quite noisy when it is operating. Was the ground wet, sandy, or muddy where this occured?

Reply to Infiniti Nissan Specialist's Post: The air conditioning was not on, neither, lights,
radio, etc. The sound was VERY loud and almost
booming, as if the car was going to fall apart.
I dont think ABS would make this sound, it
was horrendously loud. The ground was a cement
driveway, dry, daylight. The car lurched so
violently, I turned off the key, I would describe
it as BUCKING bronco, and I have owned stallions. This was the weirdest thing I have
ever experienced in a car in my life, I have
been driving for thirty five years.

Accepted Answer

I suggest you have it towed in to the dealer then in this case since it sounds dangerous. I have never seen or heard of a Nissan behaving this way, or any car for that matter.
