I have a 2003 Nissan Murano with the CVT transmission. On hot days and in stop-and-go traffic, I will experience problems with accelerating. There are times where I can have the pedal all the way to the floor and the car will not move for about 5-10 seconds, and then suddenly it will take off. The local Nissan dealer says that I have to replace the transmission, but because I bought the car used from a Toyota dealership, their service contract does not want to pay for it. Does the transmission have to be replaced or can another component be the culprit?

The transmission will have to be replaced. Heat kills transmissions, this is why it acts up when it's warm or in stop and go traffic. The aftermarket warranty companies try very hard to avoid huge repair bills such as yours even if they know they are in the wrong. Unfortunately the transmission will likely have to entirely quit before they'll pay for any repairs.
