If there is no DIY solution what is a fair price to pay? The Dealer wants to charge me $1100.

Hello. Removing the mass air flow sensor is very simple. You just pop off the top of the air box for the engine filter and disconect the clips by pushing them off with a screw driver. And then unscrew the connection to the other side of the intake boot and install. You will need to reset the check engine light and if the mass air flow sensor was the correct problem then the adaptation values will readjust as you drive the vehicle. The last picture in this group shows the mass air flow sensor connected to the throttle boot. You will only need to take the mass air flow off and not the whole boot. Let me know if you need more clarification. I do know the part is pretty expensive so I am not sure how much of the charge is labor but usually this would be part of the 1 hour diag since this part is really simple to install.Thank you.

How do I reset the check engine light? Thanks

Answer

Hello. The only way to do this is using a scan tool. You could ask the dealer to reset the light while it is there and hopefully it will not reset by the time you install the part. Or you could go to autozone (I think they will do this) and have them scan the code and delete if for you. I am not sure on the cost of a scan tool but it might be around 1-200 but as I use the BMW tester from the dealership I have not priced them out. Also an independent shop might do this for free if you know them or a small charge. I hope this help And thank you for the Accept. Let me know if I can help you further.
