I bought a product at a store with a warranty. The product quit working the store tried to fix it but could not. The store no longer carries this product so I reqested a refund. I requested a check and was told ok. I was mailed a gift card equal to the amount I told the office and the store mgt. that I had no intention of shopping in the store and only wanted my money was told this was policy. When I became upset the mgt called security do I have any claim here or should I just allow the store to force me to use the card at their store?

Most stores will post in a open area their clear return policy Most stores today are indeed issuing store cards for returns with no proof of purchase or for cash returns after a set period of time If you were told this was their policy then you can return to see if it is clearly posted If not then you can ask for a cash refund The cards most often will not allow full cash refunds if you bought a small priced item But you may attempt that I simply suggest that you use the card and then discontinue shopping with them Reply if needed.
