Most likely you had an internal harness short which caused excessive resistance which overloaded the harness and melted it.

WILL MY INJECTORS & GLOW PLUGS BE O.K.? WHAT IS WORST CASE FOR THIS HARNESS SHORT?

Accepted Answer

Worst case will be fried injectors. The glow plugs can withstand high voltages. The IDM can also be affected if the harness is still shorted or shorted beyond the harness. We fix alot of harness where as the harness is the only fault.

IF I AM GETTING A HARNESS FROM A WRECK AT THE YARD, WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU ADVISE THAT I GET? SHORTED BEYOND THE HARNESS MEANS WHAT? SHOULD I GET THE POWER DIST. BOX?

Answer

Shorted beyond the harness in the other direction meaning everything the harness connects to under the valve cover. You will need to ohm the connections out and see if they are grounded.
