Question

''98 2500 silverado 4wd 350 vortech. I lost spark. Tested dist., crank sensor, replaced coil and ign. mod. Truck quit while plowing snow. Have 50 psi fuel pres.Fuses are good. Trans was replaced prior to my purchase. Is there a sensor in trans that would cut spark, or has the ecm failed? No obdII codes come up.(screen blank,cc flashes).

How did you verify the no spark situation? I am also interested in how you tested the fuel pressure? Was the pressure tested by turning the key from off to on?

I used a digital volt meter on power and ground leads to verify voltage pulse. Fuel pressure was measured with key on for several seconds after pump shut off. This truck ran worse in wet weather and would stall after hitting water. Would start right back up though. The cap, rotor, plugs and wires have all been replaced prior to this event. I have a clip-on spark tester, and used different plug wires as well as the coil wire.

Answer

Well I am concerned with the fuel pressure first. Your fuel system needs to produce 60-66 psi of fuel to operate the poppet style injectors. I am wondering also if you have examined the distributor cap for any moisture since all of this has occured. Gm actually had a info bulletin regarding problems somewhat like wht you are having. The bulletin was in reference to a clogged screen in the bottom of the distributor. This screens purpose is to allow for the distributor to vent.

The cap, rotor, plugs, and wires were just replaced about 150 miles prior to this event. NO SPARK now. Truck stalled while plowing snow. I checked cap for moisture, none. Truck has been in heated garage for 3 weeks now, still no spark. Dist drive gear is good ,truck is in time. Seems to be no slack in chain.
