i was admitted to hospital for emergency apendectomyinsurance covered first day. my insurance ended due to layoff,a and did not cover 3 days of continued care in hospital. Is this right?

What day where you admitted to the hosptial? What term was your insurance, ie weekly coverage, monthly coverage? When was the last paymetn to your insurance in relation to your hospital stay?

I was diagnosed on 31st of jan, this year. Aetna was my provider thru work health plan. I was laid of and my coverage was to end on the 31st. of Jan. They paid for the day of my event but not the extended care in hosp. The operation was on the 31st of Jan. I was released from the hosp. on the 3rd of Feb.

Since your coverage probably was monthly Aetna was only responsible for the days that the premium was paid. So if the coverage ended on the 31st because they were only paid for that time, they are not responsible for medical bills starting Feb 1st forward. Now your employer should have sent you a letter under COBRA with the option to continue your health insurance if you pay the full premium, which is probably less for one month than the cost of your hospital bill, so you should elect to take that option now. You have 30 days to take it so you are getting close to the deadline. Contact your employer's HR department immediately.
