Answer

Yes I have heard of this and the best thing to try first would be to take Benadryl twice daily and also to do some Epsom Salt bath soaks which will decrease the sensitivity of your skin. Oatmeal baths and creams would also be a big help to decresing the sensitivity of your skin as well. If this does not work the next best route to go would be for them to try a Prednisone injection or tablets that are taken over a course of 6 days and this would help to counteract the allergic reaction that you are suffering from.

Would I take the benadryl prior to the surgery or after? Would I take the prednisone prior to the surgery or after? The sensativity of the skin feels like nerve pain---from the inside of my body--coming to the surface of the skin. Would the bath still help? I also am wide awake after surgery and have trouble sleeping/resting. Sorry for more info needed

Accepted Answer

Actually I would recommend both but if you are planning to take the Benadryl after the surgery make sure your surgeon is aware as they may want to go ahead and give you a prescription strength medication to prevent this from occuring and also so that you do not take a chance in any drug interactions with any pain medications or other prescription medications they may send you home with. And yes the bath would still help greatly and do let them know how much trouble you do have with sleeping and resting after surgery as the more they are aware of your symptoms the better they can prescribe medication to help you with this. And it is not a problem you needing more information, that is why I am here is to be of help to you.
