Optional Information:
1999 Jeep Grand cherrokee 4.7 V8

Already Tried:
additive to reduce oil leaking

Answer

Unfortunately if it is burning oil now on dino oil it will be worse on synthetic. The synthetic oil is physically "thinner" on a molecular level and flows better than dino oil, so it will bypass whatever is leaking (rings, valve seals) better and burn more. You might slow it slightly by switching to a 50 weight oil, but depending on how bad it is, you may see no real difference over the 10w40.
