Question

My mini daschund is kept in a crate during the day. She must be trying to get out and is gouging the top part of her nose every day. It heals well on the weekend but I have put tape and other things on the crate to try to stop this but it isn''t working. What can I put on the actual wound on the top of her nose to make it heal. It looks terrible.

Answer

Hi Sba,

Neosporin or triple antibiotic cream can be used to help the wound heal. You might want to try a different type of crate such as the ones used by airlines where she may not be able to damage her nose. Or a playpen type of containment for her. I know many people that use these methods. I use wire crates and the portable plastic exercise fencing inside to contain dogs that need it when I am gone. Here is the type I am referring to.

I've had mine for years and you can add or subtract panels to change the size. I hope this information is helpful to you.
