Question

I have a 7 month old Jack Russell Terrier. At moment he seems very lethargic and is shivering uncontrollably.I have felt about his tummy but does not appear to be in any pain.He has not been sick but is not interested in any food whatsoever, though has drunk a little water.Earlier I had taken him on a long walk in countryside where his behaviour was completely normal, jumping about and playing and digging about in bushes, etc. He did toilet a few times but this appeared normal.I suspect he may have eaten some animal faeces e.g.sheep and/or rabbit, but did not actually witness this, though he had done this in past, but with no apparent reaction. He constantly goes out into garden where he''ll find a quiet spot and lay there shivering.Any ideas?

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that your JRT is having this issue. There are several things that may be causing his symptoms. A few of the main concerns are:

Ingestion of something toxic (plant, pesticide etc.)

Infection

Parasites

General Pain (stomach issue, back problem etc., can all cause shivering)

I would suggest that you call your vet as they know his medical history. If it's supsected that he may have gotten into something he shouldn't have, he'll need to be seen as soon as possible. You can put some Nutri-Cal or syrup on his gums to help with blood sugar, but he will still need to be seen. I hope he's doing better soon and if you have any other questions, let me know. -Robyn
