Hello XXXXXXXXXXXXXX,
Everything you are listing does not in any way suggest Alzheimer's Dementia so you can forget about that as it is not the cause.
I would suggest that you make an appointment with a neurologist who can perform a variety of examinations (both verbal and physical) that will help to identify exactly what symptoms may be present and which are clearly not present.
The neurologist may also suggest an MRI as a precaution to rule out certain other diseases. He may also suggest neuropsychological testing which involves spending many hours with a specially trained psychologist who will do all kinds of tests (verbal and written) to determine which, if any, specific areas of your brain or cognitive function may be impaired.
Please realize that the neurologist may examine you and not feel that there are any significant problems to warrant an MRI or additional testing, but these are possibilities.
One more common disease that could produce the kinds of cognitive problems you are describing would be multiple sclerosis (MS). Cognitive problems are not usually the first sign of the disease, but MS has so many different potential components to it that it can present with memory and word-finding difficulties.
I hope this helps to give you some direction.
Take care,
Dr. Michael
